ECCQ welcomes the opportunity to make a submission to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection on changes to the citizenship test and application process. This submission focuses on the following new requirements: increasing the general residency requirement, introducing an English language test, strengthening the test for Australian citizenship and introducing a requirement for applicants to demonstrate their integration into the Australian community. 2 June 2017: The Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland (ECCQ) held a graduation ceremony on 31 May 2017 for participants from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds who have successfully completed certificate III qualifications in individual support (ageing specialisation) and business administration.
